Summary
Overall, Tik Tik Tik is a delightful watch for the VFX, acting by cast, and more importantly, for the brave attempt by Shakti Soundar Rajan.
The movie is highly engaging and entertaining and sets the standard high for tamil cinema. Go watch it on the big screen and you will definitely enjoy it!
Shakti Soundar Rajan is known for his brave attempts. Miruthan, a first ever Zombie movie in Tamil cinema was his previous attempt. And it did very well in box office. It was well received by tamil cinema fans!
His track record includes movies like Nanayam and Naaigal Jaakirathai.
Now, Tik Tik Tik is a space thriller and yes, a first time space movie in Indian cinema, and as tamils we should be proud of the attempt.
The movie was scheduled to be released about 5 months ago, but due to the strike it was delayed. Finally it has hit the screens today.
Since the movie was advertised as the first ever Indian space movie, and since its release had been delayed, Tik Tik Tik has kept the fans in hype.
Especially when the teaser and the trailer had been released, the hype meter for the movie turned red hot.
Has Tik Tik Tik lived up to the expectations? Let’s see!
First of all, if you are going to scream about the logic, let’s slow down a bit.
Do we see to the logic in all the Hollywood and Bollywood films we watch? Even in Kollywood, we have some big budget and big star movies that have HUGE logical holes.
Dasavatharam? Enthiran? Baahubali? Avengers? Rampage? Just to name a few (in no particular order and no offence)…
And these are pretty BIG BUDGET movies compared to Tik Tik Tik.
Don’t we appreciate them and look at those movies in awe?
Yes there are a few places where the logic disappears, but Tik Tik Tik is worth the watch for its brave attempt, the execution and acting by cast.
Jayam Ravi has given his best in terms of performance. Be it the floating scenes, be it emotions, his mischief etc., he shines.
In fact, apart from the fact that this is the first Indian space movie, the “Jayam Ravi” factor is another major plus for the movie. And it has increased the expectation levels too!
Jayam Ravi has lived up to the expectations and in a way, has carried the movie in his shoulders.
Nivetha has done her job neatly, though a few scenes displaying her glam don’t fit well into the movie and could have been avoided.
The supporting cast includes Vincent Asokan, Jayaprakash, Ramesh Thilak and Arjunan. Not to mention, Jayam Ravi’s (real) son Aarav has played his son in the movie.
Though we shouldn’t expect an experienced output from him, he has fitted into his role like a charm.
In fact, the whole father-son bonding fitted into this kind of a space thriller might look awkward to some – but honestly, it has worked best! The visuals of Kurumba are delightful to watch.
D. Imman has done a splendid job in BGM. In some scenes, silence is music 🙂 The BGM has travelled all through the changing mood of the film in all the scenes.
Everyone knows the plot of the film from the trailer – so I’d better not talk about it. Or else I might reveal some spoilers too!
The first half is pretty entertaining and is decently engaging. The second half though lags a bit and slows down.
The logic also goes completely missing at a few places in the second half. The climax is something you would enjoy.
VFX is something to talk about. For the audience who had never watched space movies, this will wow you!
I had read about the efforts of the VFX team (AJAX Media Tech) and learned that this is a work that they can claim solely to be theirs.
They have done a remarkable job, considering the budget and the timeline. If you are going to compare the VFX to those of the Hollywood movies (like Gravity), you could be disappointed a bit.
But before doing such a comparison, you must take into account of the fact that this is done by an in-house company on a very limited budget (and time).
VFX is a big plus to the movie without which the movie could easily fall flat.
If you are too much into space movies and have quite some knowledge and experience from watching space movies, you could end up with lots of questions and comments against the logic.
A few of them include…
- Landing in the moon
- Going so long with little oxygen
- The heroism that’s somewhat over-infused
- The unnecessary commercial elements (includes the glam and booze scenes)
- The mere choice of an escape artist for a so serious space mission
- Going to space just like that with a week’s training
… and so on.
But whatever be it, you cannot deny the fact that Tik Tik Tik has set the standards high for tamil movies (on this budget).
It has in a way challenged the big budget movies.
And not just that – Tik Tik Tik has also opened new ideas and ways to explore storylines for new tamil movies.
