“Obsolete” is the word that would aptly explain Sketch. The plot of Sketch is simple, old and something that’s done to death.
“Obsolete” is the word that would aptly explain Sketch.
We have seen many movies in the past that follow this template and even, a few of those have Vikram in the lead role.
Well, a old fashioned script need not always be a flop. We have had brilliant directors who take up a template, give it a magical whim that ends up in a perfect entertainer.
But that’s not the case with Sketch.
Let’s forget about Sketch for a moment. And let’s talk about Vikram. The real shocker is not that Sketch is not upto the expectations (given the hype) – the shocker is how Vikram accepted the script.
We all know how seasoned actor Vikram is and he himself has trained the audience on what to expect from him.
He is someone who spends years preparing himself for a role and he doesn’t shy away from going any extent to transform himself for the role.
But with Sketch, he has disappointed his audience totally.
The plot of Sketch is simple, old and something that’s done to death. Vikram plays the right hand of a financier (Harish Peradi) who offers loans to buy vehicles.
And when someone fails to pay the dues, Vikram seizes their vehicle. On one such instant he happens to cross lines with a gangster Kumar who’s vintage Fiat car is in question.
He has that car in memory of his father and he does not tolerate anyone touching it! The friction builds up, and he plots to kill Vikram.
How the rivalry between Vikram and Kumar ends up forms the rest of the story.
Vikram has done his very best to his character role in the movie. He is energetic and peppy throughout. A few fight sequences add element to the script and helps making the audience stick to the plot.
But that doesn’t help in any way.
Tamannaah Bhatia appears in a homely look and she adds a pleasant feel to the movie. But she doesn’t have much to perform except appearing for the songs.
In short, her acting skills are not at all used in Sketch.
The songs are pleasant and go well with the mood of the film. Thaman’s BG definitely adds spice to the action scenes.
The action sequences near the interval and climax are worth mentioning.
Nevertheless, Sketch is rather disappointing.
