( vote)Kanchana 3 Review
Had the movie be a little less noisy, had lesser skin show and “figure” references, and a bit of freshness compared to the previous movies, it would have been a winner.
Nevertheless, you can enjoy Kanchana 3 as a casual watch over the weekend!

Kanchana 3 is the fourth movie in the Muni/Kanchana franchise, as we all know!
And all the movies in the franchise have the same formula, tailor made for the cast.
Each movie in the series has turned out to be family entertainers mainly because of the genre and the cast.
Horror comedy is a nice genre for casual audience and can have a wide range of audience that show interest for this kind of a movie (like for ex. Dhilluku Dhuddu).
Second, the cast – Kovai Sarala, Devadharshini, Sree – all make that family so relatable.
Story
We usually have Raghava Lawrence as a jolly, good-hearted man who is afraid of ghosts and in fact, the dark.

He tortures the members of the family due to this – his mom Kovai Sarala is the one who is mostly affected by his funny tortures.
And then Raghava gets possessed by a good ghost, who is seeking revenge. After knowing the touching flashback of the ghost, Lawrence obliges to help the ghost and permits it to stay in his body and take revenge.
This is the formula for all movies in the Muni/Kanchana series.
But usually with every movie, the makers try to add something new and different to keep the audience engaged.
For instance, like the transgender angle in one of the movies.
As I just said, there’s not much to the story of Kanchana 3 that’s different from the other movies in the series.
There are only very slight modifications!
Screenplay
Since we know what’s in, there’s not much to talk about screenplay.
Just like the other movies in the series, the screenplay follows the template without much twist.
The pace is decent. We have a lite first half and a somewhat serious second half.
The comedy works with the audience mostly, though there are many occasions where you sense a repeat feeling.
Horror works partly. The jump-scares are what we have watched in many movies.
However, there is a difference in the way the scare scenes and the ghosts are designed and presented.
Acting by cast
Raghava Lawrence rules the show right from the beginning to the end. He is so energetic and does total justice to the roles.

He is terrific while he dances!
The ladies are used merely for skin show. There is not much scope for “acting” to all the three of them.
However, I admired Vedhika for maintaining the same physique and glow over these years.
Kovai Sarala does away with her template comedy, and at many places I felt she is loud and even overacted. But the audience seemed to like her jokes.
Devadharshini and Sreeman played their roles well.
Technicals
BGM by Thaman is excellent and it lifts the tension in many scenes. Be it the jump scares, the thrilling scenes, or the fights – his BGM holds them all up!
However, the songs are very OKish and don’t create an impact.
Cinematography by Vetri and Sushil Choudhary is excellent. For a horror movie this is very important and they have fitted the bill.
Overall
Kanchana 3 is another movie in the Muni/Kanchana franchise that follows the template.
And due to that, you know what to expect. There are not many differences to the previous movies in the series.

That might disappoint you.
However if you are a fan of the the Kanchana series, the movie will definitely entertain you as it has all the elements.
Had the movie be a little less noisy, had lesser skin show and “figure” references, and a bit of freshness compared to the previous movies, it would have been a winner.
Nevertheless, you can enjoy Kanchana 3 as a casual watch over the weekend!
