Go in for mindless laughing and you will get a bang for your buck. In fact, once the movie is over you would feel exhausted about how you were fed with plots and sub-plots alongside the comedy.
Nevertheless, Kalakalappu 2 is a guaranteed funny watch.
Kalakalappu 2 is Sundar C’s clever packaging. The director is an expert in delivering full blown comedies and we have numerous examples of that.
Irrespective of how good the story or screenplay is, Sundar C’s movies usually do well for the comedy.
Kalakalappu 2 – not a sequel of Kalakalappu, apart from a few similarities – has a huge star cast.
Sundar C has pulled in a lot of them to increase the star value of the movie. The heroines Nikki Galrani and Catherine Teresa are there to add glam and both of them do that very well.
There are songs that are colorful (one song with almost all the leading star cast dancing) and loud just as you would see in any Sundar C movie. The songs however contribute to the length of the movie!
There are plots and sub-plots that we are constantly introduced to which makes it a bit exhausting to consume. Nevertheless, as for the laughs, the movie works well as we expect.
The first half takes its own time to establish the issues around the characters. Only in the second half, the tension picks up.
The second half has real good comedy moments compared to the first half which is somewhat relatively sluggish.
Jiiva (Seenu) runs a mansion in Kasi. The mansion is actually the ancestral property of Jai (Raghu) and he sets out to Kasi to claim it.
He seeks the help of Thasildhar Nikki (Aishwarya) and in the process they meet up often and fall in love.
Jiiva’s love interest is Catherine who is the sister of Sathish.
After knowing all the details about the property, both Seenu and Raghu settle down with a hearty agreement.
Now enters Shiva, a petty thief who has skilfully looted money from both Seenu and Raghu. So how do the heroes chase him and get their money back forms the rest of the story.
Shiva enters the movie only towards the interval but he overtakes everyone with his screen presence – his one liners are awesome as always.
Just like the chasing scene in Kalakalappu there is also one in Kalakalappu 2 as well and the scene will give you ample laughs.
While both Jiiva and Jai have performed well, they could have done better. Unlike other movies where Jai and Jiiva have played the only heroes, both of their characterization seems a bit diluted in Kalakalappu 2.
May be it is because there are too many on screen characters. All of them have fitted into their roles and have delivered neat, comical performances.
Since the star cast involves a lot of comical appearances (Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Robo Shankar, Munishkanth, Madhusudhanan), Sundar C manages to casually throw in jokes all the time.
And yes you can count on the movie for a lot of laughs.
But also yes, there are quite a few cinematic and eye roll moments where you would strongly look for the lack of logic – never mind.
Go in for mindless laughing and you will get a bang for your buck. In fact, once the movie is over you would feel exhausted about how you were fed with plots and sub-plots alongside the comedy.
Nevertheless, Kalakalappu 2 is a guaranteed funny watch.
