Summary
Kadaram Kondan is a stylishly made, engaging action thriller. The makers have aimed at making a movie in Hollywood standards.
Had the director focused on adding depth to the script, the movie would have been a clear winner.
Nevertheless Kadaram Kondan is an engaging, one time watch. In particular, you can watch it for Vikram’s dedication and flamboyance!

Since the first look of Kadaram Kondan was released the movie kept the fans in the hype. It was mainly Vikram’s look that caught everyone’s attention.
There were many suspicions about the story and Vikram’s role in the movie.
To put a full stop to our guess work, the movie has hit the screens today and has received a very good opening.
Right from the first frame we are presented with action, with style.
Vasu (Abi Hassan) works as a trainee doctor and he helps save the life of KK (Vikram). Due to KK, Vasu’s pregnant wife Aatirah (Akshara Haasan) gets kidnapped.

Vasu has to help KK escape in order to save her wife.
Who is KK and why is he being wanted by the cops and the bad boys? Did Vasu get out of the issue?
Did Aatirah escape from the bad boys? These form the rest of the story.
It is Vikram’s screen presence that is a BIG plus for the movie. As usual he has worked really hard for his looks in the movie and it has paid off.

However, his screen presence didn’t seem enough to us. He could have occupied a bit more of screen space and could have had more dialogues!
Nevertheless, he carries his role with much style and class, just like that – with so much ease and it feels as if only Vikram could do that.
Abi Hassan is very convincing even though he could work on his acting skills. He gets substantial screen space in the movie, more than Chiyaan Vikram in fact.
Akshara Haasan is another plus to the movie. Whenever she gets a chance, she emotes really well. She could have been used a bit more effectively in the movie.
There is an action sequence (not a fight per se) that she performs really well.
Ghibran’s music is one of the pluses to the movie. For all the classy shots and slow-mos plus for the action sequences, it is his music that adds strength.
The visuals add enough strength and depth to the scenes – raising the standards of every shot – be it a bigger, serious shot or a pretty casual one.
So what does the film lack? In one word, depth.
Overall, the movie is just carried away by Vikram’s flamboyance and stylishly made scenes. However, there is no depth in the writing.
And that gives us an “insufficient” feel throughout the movie.
We feel that more focus is put on the characters of Abi and Akshara and on their story, while the other stories take a bit of a back seat.
In particular, the characterization of Vikram lacks depth – it is his character that attracted the hype for the movie; hence that stands as a disappointment.

In addition, throughout the movie there is a sense of disappointment because when we expect quite a bit of an action or a twist, that ain’t happening!
Nevertheless, the script is pretty engaging, though pacing could have been improved a bit too.
In particular, before the story takes the stage, the script seems to wander off here and there in the first half.
Overall, Kadaram Kondan is a stylishly made, engaging action thriller. The makers have aimed at making a movie in Hollywood standards.
That has worked out almost well – with strong visuals and BGM.
Had the director focused on adding depth to the script, the movie would have been a clear winner.
Nevertheless Kadaram Kondan is an engaging, one time watch. In particular, you can watch it for Vikram’s dedication and flamboyance!
