The screenplay is loaded with family elements and at times you feel overwhelmed by the melodrama that is omnipresent.
Nevertheless, Kadaikutty Singam is a light weight family entertainer that will make a good weekend choice for the whole family!
Kadaikutty Singam is Karthi’s long awaited release. And after a while, Karthi has sported a role in the village backdrop.
The movie is a complete family entertainer which touches all the aspects a family entertainer needs. So if you are into enjoying the weekend as a family, Kadaikutty Singam is a perfect choice.
The movie revolves around a family – all of the story and screenplay is strongly built around one particular family. That’s the strength of Kadaikutty Singam.
But where it falls short? Perhaps with the inclusion of too many characters!
We have Ranasingam played by Sathyaraj in a wonderful, yet casual way (in his own style), who desires to have a boy. But to his (not so sweet) surprise, his wife (Viji Chandrasekar) delivers girl babies – 5!
In the intense desire to have a boy, Ranasingam marries another lady (Banupriya) who finally delivers him a boy, Gunasingam (Karthi).
And he happens to be the youngest of the five sisters – hence the name Kadaikutty Singam!
Since we have five sisters, there is no shortage of sentiments in the movie. You have ample family sentiments to have the ladies (who are into watching sentis) covered.
Gunasingam does all he can to maintain oneness in the family. He carefully takes care of the wishes of each of the sisters and makes sure all of them are treated equal and with utmost care.
On a side note Gunasingam is a farmer and he is passionate and proud about being one.
He also has dialogues at multiple places in the movie where he encourages others to take upon farming and not to think farming as something inferior.
Although such a message is much needed for the tamil society at this time, the dialogues definitely sound preachy at times.
Karthi is as usual energetic and captures audience’s liking in every scene he performs. Sathyaraj does his job neatly, but we feel that he could have been used a bit more effectively.
While Gunasingam does all he can to keep the family united, he is also the one who stands as the main cause for the rise of issues in the family.
While his two aunts are so keen on marrying one of their daughters to Gunasingam, he ends up loving a lady outside of his family (Sayyesha) – so that’s enough to kindle all the rest of the enmity and the related drama.
Sayyesha is bubbly and makes a pleasant screen presence. But her characterization is not strong enough and we are not able to connect to her role.
Again, this could be perhaps there are too many characters in the movie.
How Gunasingam overcomes all the family drama and sentiments and silly fights to make his love a success forms the rest of the story.
The screenplay is loaded with family elements and at times you feel overwhelmed by the melodrama that is omnipresent.
Nevertheless, Kadaikutty Singam is a light weight family entertainer that will make a good weekend choice for the whole family!
