Jarugandi Review
It seems that no effort has been put into making a convincing screenplay that would make the audience engage with the movie.
That makes Jarugandi a below average movie.
If you really have nothing to do this weekend, go watch Jarugandi in theatre. Else, save it.
Debutant director Pitchumani has taken a script on hand that sounds quite exciting indeed. But how come such a script can become a below average entertainer?
Well its all in the screenplay!
It seems that no effort has been put into making a convincing screenplay that would make the audience engage with the movie.
The movie has a decent cast that has Jai in the lead role. Reba Monica as the heroine, not the conventional kind! Robo Shankar, Daniel Annie Pope, and Ilavarasu play pivotal roles.
The movie is about a guy named Satya who is from a below middle-class family that wants to achieve big. He wants to own a business, a travels business to be precise.
His loan requests are not accepted by the banks. Frustrated, he vents out his thoughts to his friend Paari (Daniel). Now they come across Samuel (Ilavarasu), a broker who helps them to get loan with forged papers.
When all is about to get well, the forgery is smelled by a corrupted cop (Bose Venkat) who tries to make something for him off this situation.
He asks Satya and Paari a lump sum and threatens them to expose and take action if they fail to give him the amount.
Gajendran (Robo Shankar) is a big shot that Satya and Paari meet in a bar; he offers to lend them a lump sum if they help him get married to a young girl named Keerthy (Reba Monica).
In order to get out of the problem, Satya accepts the offer and kidnaps the girl, without knowing he has opened another can of worms.
Finally how all issues are settled form the rest of the story.
The plot is quite concrete to make an engaging, fun thriller. But with an effortlessly written screenplay, the movie falls flat.
We have quite some engaging moments. But those are not enough to keep the audience engaged throughout.
We are not even able to empathise with any of the characters or their problems.
Reba is a new comer and she has performed quite decently. Luckily, her character is not that of a conventional heroine who falls in love and sings songs.
Rather, for a debutant role, her characterization is promising. But still we could feel the void.
Daniel is loud and makes us laugh at a few moments. Robo Shankar performs better than Daniel, but beyond a point it openly shows that he tries hard to make us laugh.
Stunts are definitely over the top and cinematic. There are also forced heroic moments for Jai.
R. D. Rajasekhar’s cinematography is neat but not very amazing. Praveen K. L. editing has definitely helped with increasing the pace of the movie.
Bobo Shashi’s tunes don’t impress in any way. The BGM is OKish.
The love track is forced. There are many logical holes in the movie.
All these combined, make Jarugandi a below average movie.
If you really have nothing to do this weekend, go watch Jarugandi in theatre. Else, save it.
