Summary
The “treatment” works. Not taking anything seriously and at at the same time bringing out crucial social issues, and coating this package with comedy has worked.
If you want to have a good laugh and don’t care about logic, Gorilla will definitely entertain you!

Gorilla has been in the limelight since the first look poster was revealed – the chimp caught the attention among the other artists.
Sadly though the movie is not about the chimp! He is just a sidekick.
The movie is about a group of people who have their own share of sad stories.
Jeeva is someone who is a petty criminal. And Jiiva fits in the role seamlessly.
(Arjun Reddy fame) Shalini Pandey is the love interest of Jeeva and she has not much scope in the movie.
Jeeva, accompanied by his sidekicks, along with a farmer Sadhik (Madhan) who is at the verge of giving up, plan to rob a bank so they can put a full stop to their problems.

Then follows the bank robbery and the following sequence. One must admit that the scenes around robbery and the sequences are utterly silly and lack logic.
But if you give in to the movie considering it to be a heist comedy, and let go of the expectation for the movie to have logic, you can end up enjoying it.
Sathish, and Yogi Babu do crack out some jokes – some turn out to be silly, yet enjoyable. Some work out well.
The movie deals with more than one thing – a bank robbery (with justification and back stories), a thankfully negligible romance, a chimp that comes along with no importance, the issues of farmers, and other current social issues that are in trend.

So we get to feel that the movie’s focus is totally off. But the comedy (though silly) travels throughout and helps lighten the mood.
It is totally unacceptable that the movie is named Gorilla. And the chimp named Kong is not given enough importance.
It only acts as a sidekick. But kids might find the chimp’s presence amusing.
There are body shaming jokes that don’t sit well.
Music by Sam CS is good and it is definitely a plus for the movie.
The first half of the movie is lethargic and slowly establishes the characters and the plot itself.
The second half is definitely better than the first half and is engaging.
Whenever we feel that the film could become serious (discussing the issues that are in the current trend), the jokes appear and lighten the mood.
The movie’s run time is 2 hrs and 8 minutes and is just about enough!
Without unnecessary romance and force fitted songs, the movie feels so lite – despite the logical mess.
The name of the movie itself is enough to prove you that the movie lacks logic!
Don Sandy has made a plan to crank out a heist comedy and make it a success. Well it has worked with the audience I would say.
As a critic, I can go on pointing out what the film lacks especially in terms of logic and how the movie could have been made better.
But as a general audience, who doesn’t look at the movie critically and doesn’t expect logic, I could enjoy it on a light note.
The “treatment” works. Not taking anything seriously and at at the same time bringing out crucial social issues, and coating this package with comedy has worked.
If you want to have a good laugh and don’t care about logic, Gorilla will definitely entertain you!
