( votes)Goli Soda 2 Review
Goli Soda 2 is a wonderful attempt to make a gripping sequel to Goli Soda. And it did work out in the first half.
The second half though drags us into a totally different (loud, violent and unrealistic) universe where the frizz is gone too soon.
Goli Soda 2 is a sequel to the well received Goli Soda, which is known for its very practical and realistic representation of youngsters.
The movie is about three youngsters who face different kinds of problems in their lives and they are connected by a common friend (Natesan, played by Samuthirakani).
We have a straightforward yet honest auto driver Shiva. Another one, Oli, has a great passion for basketball, but he works in a eatery.
And then there’s Maran, who works for a rowdy; he is willing to change course for his love, but is under the grip of the rowdy!
We get to a Vikram Vedha style opening where Samuthirakani is interrogated by a police officer, Raghavan (Gautam Menon) as these three youngsters are missing.
We are then taken to the narration of the backstory involving the youngsters, and the first half is really promising and engaging.
The story telling itself is pretty smart and doesn’t let us wonder or get bored. The story of the three youngsters are totally different, yet we are able to make a relation between the three, as well as relate to their stories.
The youngsters are no heroes or notable persons – they are so relatable and are trying to live a peaceful life. But are facing donship and how they fight and rise above is the core story line.
The movie though is taken totally off track in the second half. Somehow we feel that we are in a totally different environment when transitioning from the first to the second half.
The movie gets too dramatic, too loud and too unrealistic once we step into the second half – and all that hope we had in the first half simply disintegrates.
We are not sure why such a dramatic jump was required in the screenplay – and this totally ruins the movie.
Composer Achu tries to keep up so hard with the differences in the first and the second half, but he could only do so much.
Nevertheless, he has delivered the so very brilliant Pondatee!
The love tracks of the youngsters are very underwritten and do not create the necessary impact.
Plus we have too many characters – and we are introduced to two more in the second half. The villains are all similar!
The fight sequences are way too unrealistic and that totally spoils the concept of Goli Soda itself. In Goli Soda the fights we so realistic and practical and that very aspect helped convey the message of the movie.
In Goli Soda 2, that’s missing altogether.
Overall, Goli Soda 2 is a wonderful attempt to make a gripping sequel to Goli Soda. And it does work out in the first half.
The second half though drags us into a totally different (loud, violent and unrealistic) universe where the frizz is gone too soon.
