Summary
Overall Comali is definitely fun filled. But it also has other elements added into the mix and sadly those other areas don’t sit well with the audience.
As a result, even though the first half engages the audience well, we can sense some inconsistency, drag, off-tone and a mix of other things in the second half.
Nevertheless, Comali is an entertainer for the most part and comedy works big time. You can enjoy it with your family!

Comali, just like most movies of this era, met with controversies since the release of its teaser.
There was a scene that teases Super Star Rajinikanth about his political announcement, and that kindled the controversy.
Nevertheless, the trailer promised a fun ride and hence the hype went straight up.
Did Comali stand up to the hype and does it satisfy the audience with its comedy? Read on!
From the trailer, the storyline of the movie is quite evident. We have the hero Ravi (Jayam Ravi), who wakes up after being in Coma for over a decade.
We are taken back to the 90s where the scenes of Ravi’s school days are presented aptly and both the 90s kids and the 2K kids can relate to.
He has a love interest Nikitha, played by Samyuktha Hegde in a brief role. Ravi gifts her something valuable, and then unfortunately meets with an accident that makes him go into coma.
Once he wakes up from coma, he realizes how things have changed around him. Helplessly, he tries to get used to the new world he is seeing around.
Later he gets to meet another girl, played by Kajal and develops closeness with her.
Ravi is now keen on getting the gift back that he once gifted to her girlfriend, as he learns about its value in the current times.
How he gets it back and how this mission leads him to cross lines with a bad politician forms the rest of the story.

The first half moves in a nice pace and engages us extremely well. The second half though takes quite some other things into the mix and hence drifts off track.
The main issue with Comali is that it falls into multiple genres and leaves the audience unsure about which genre the movie is on.
It would have been much better if the movie had stuck to the comedy drama genre as comedy is the only thing that works big time in the movie.
The social angle, political angle and the thriller angle dilute the core focus of the movie and also those angles don’t hit us hard with any impact.
Nevertheless, the director’s concern about including a humanity message deserves praises – just that it doesn’t fit into the bill of the movie’s comic mood.

Jayam Ravi carries the movie on his shoulders all along and he has brilliantly emoted as a school boy, a person trying to catch up with the current trends, and as a socially responsible person.
Yogi Babu is another person to look out for in the movie for his acting as well as the one-liners clearly work.
Kajal doesn’t get a meaty role, and her role is close to a cameo.
Samyuktha has a better written role compared to Kajal but still lacks depth.
Other supporting characters in the movie, including the YouTubers, deliver pretty good acting.
The movie is technically sound. Hip Hop Adhi’s music sits very well with the movie and carries smoothly along with the comedy, as well as serious portions.
Cinematography adds strength and color to every frame.
Overall Comali is definitely fun filled. But it also has other elements added into the mix and sadly those other areas don’t sit well with the audience.
As a result, even though the first half engages the audience well, we can sense some inconsistency, drag, off-tone and a mix of other things in the second half.
