Summary
Overall, Aruvam falls flat because of the weak writing and poor execution.
Siddharth is the only saving grace in the movie, who unfortunately couldn’t save it either!
Had the director focused more on the writing by making it deep rather than broad, Aruvam would have not been this boring (Aruvai).

Aruvam is an overkill of sorts as it tries to shove many things down our throat.
Social messages, a ghost angle, food adulteration issues, a female lead with a disability, the conventional love track and much more.
May be due to this – trying to be a Jack of all trades – the writing is set aside.
The writing is so weak none of the characters or sub-plots in the movie gets a chance to impress us.
Siddharth is definitely a saving grace with his fit physique and nice acting, but we often get reminded of his very similar role in Sivappu Manjal Pachai.
The trailer and the Sneak Peeks were promising and raised the expectations for the movie.

In particular, in one of the sneak peeks, Siddharth showed some real mass.
But that’s it. And that too is so short lived, unfortunately.
In short I could easily say that Siddharth is totally wasted.
Given that he is trying to get a position for himself in the Tamil Cinema field and is also getting some appreciation with some of the recent comebacks, he should focus more on choosing the right scripts.
On the other hand, Cathrerine Tresa seems to have an interesting role – on paper.
Showing her as a nearly “loosu ponnu” is the director’s achievement, unfortunately.
I am sure I was not alone but anyone who watched the trailer and sneek peak would have expected something interesting out of the disability of the female lead.
But that’s sadly wasted too.
And there seems to be a lot of confusion to the director about how to shape the character of the female lead – and the result is a weakly developed loosu ponnu having anosmia.
And even the weakly developed character (of female lead) required some solid acting which Catherine failed to deliver. Her lip sync was also out at many places.
Sathish manages to deliver a few laughs here and there, but lacks total depth.
The flashback with melodrama is much of what is expected but that doesn’t add any strength to the movie.

Sadly, the movie is technically weak too. VFX could have been much, much better!
Background music gives us DejaVu moments. Cinematography and stunt choreography were just convincing.

You can skip it.
