Overall Annanukku Jey is a cool entertainer. It was actually a pleasant surprise to see a political movie on a such light note.
There is no big dig, over the top actions or intense political plots and sub-plots. The movie is crisp, neat and to the point.
Attakathi Dinesh is quite careful in choosing the scripts. He doesn’t do a lot of films unlike the busy actors in the industry.
He is a dedicated actor too, which we were able to visualize in Cuckoo!
Annanukku Jey is produced by Vetrimaran, and this adds a dash of plus to the movie already. Debutant director Rajkumar has penned the script in a crisp and lite manner.
For a political story, there’s nothing dramatic as you would expect. The movie is about how a local boy is transformed due to situations.
The transformation forms the crux of the story but you won’t see a terrific, dramatic, or any over the top transformation of the sorts.
You would see a subtle, inner transformation that’s delivered in a rather impactful manner.
Dinesh plays Matta Sekar, the son of a toddy shop owner (played by Mayil Saamy).
When a politician brings down their toddy shop business with a bar, Sekar begins to realize a political background is indeed a powerful one.
How he transforms himself to become a somebody is very subtly told in the movie with a flavor of comedy.
Mahima Nambiar plays Sekar’s girlfriend. And the first half of the movie spends quite some time in their relationship.
How Sekar stalks the girl, desperately goes behind her, and then their fights etc. are shown in a pleasant way without testing our patience.
The second half of the movie focuses more on the political stuff.
Though there’s not any intense political story involved, the movie funnily highlights the political games that happen in the lower level.
Rather than making it a clash between the leaders of the political parties, the movie tries to bring out the weird and silly elements at the lower level politics that make up the higher level politics.
The stunt choreography requires a special mention as it is entertaining. Arrol Corelli’s music is different and quite easily sets the tone for the movie.
Overall Annanukku Jey is a cool entertainer. It was actually a pleasant surprise to see a political movie on a such light note.
There is no big dig, over the top actions or intense political plots and sub-plots. The movie is crisp, neat and to the point.
The run time is too a big plus. Go watch Annanukku Jey without any expectations and you will be sweetly surprised.
